I have just finished adding a hard wired auxiliary input into my 1989 stock radio cassette player with great results, good sound quality, and full control via the stock radio including mute. This means no more trailing wires, channel hopping with a FM transmitter or cassette adaptors. This is the method I used   http://www.sheriart.net/honda/
The parts where brought from Maplins at a cost of £6.29p and once the radio was removed it took about 4 hours to do the conversion.
